What causes anxiety?
Following are examples of traumas, losses, or inner conflicts that can trigger anxiety:
Death of a loved one
- Loss of a relationship or job
- Past emotional, physical, or sexual abuse
- Feeling conflicted or "trapped" in a situation
- Excessive need for approval
- Excessive need for control, or perfectionism
- Car accidents, surgeries, or major illness
How do you stop it?
I'll show you how to trigger your body's relaxation response. Then we'll solve any underlying fears, conflicts, or beliefs that seem to be perpetuating the anxiety.
What are some common types of anxiety issues?
Generalized Anxiety Symptoms: Ruminating worry, inability to relax, insomnia, heart palpitations, headaches, nausea, diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome
Panic Attacks: Heart racing or palpitations, shortness of breath, chills or hot flushes, feeling unreal, or feelings of impending doom and desiring to run/escape.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: An event that threatened the life, dignity, or safety of a person, then triggers being hyper-aware of your surroundings, avoidance of being near any reminders of the traumatic event, nightmares, flashbacks, feelings of helplessness, or feelings of emotional numbness.
Social Anxiety/Social Phobia: Avoiding social situations or interaction with people due to anxious sensations like blushing, sweating, heart racing, shortness of breath, shaking or tremors. You may also experience fearful thoughts that make you avoid people such as thinking "Everyone is staring at me, I don't have anything to say, or I'm going to say something dumb or foolish."
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: Intrusive, obsessive thoughts that you know on one level are irrational but can't seem to stop worrying over. Sometimes this is combined with compulsive behaviors such as cleaning, counting, checking, and putting things in a certain "order", and other rituals you may feel you have to do to prevent something "bad" from happening.
